Welcome to Caye Caulker — a small, laid-back island off the coast of Belize that runs on sun, salt air, and a pace of life best summed up by the local motto: Go Slow. You have 6 days and 5 nights here, which is just enough time to get properly acquainted with the reef, the village, and the easy rhythm of island life. There are no traffic lights and very few cars, so expect to walk, cycle, or hop on a golf cart just about everywhere you go.

• Take a day trip to the famous Shark Ray Alley and Hol Chan Marine Reserve, where you can swim alongside rays and reef sharks in shallow, clear water.
• Explore The Split, the narrow channel that divides the island, and cool off with a swim or a cold drink at the waterfront bar that lines its edge.
• Wander the colourful, sandy streets of the village, browse local art, and eat freshly grilled lobster or fish tacos at one of the open-air spots along the waterfront.
• Hire a kayak or paddleboard and head out on the calm, turquoise water at your own pace — mornings are especially peaceful before the day-trippers arrive.
