Overview
Discover Puerto Rico on a compact five-day self-drive combining the island’s historic capital with its lush northeast coast. Spend your first two nights in the San Juan area, with time to explore Old San Juan’s colourful streets, waterfront promenades and local restaurants, or relax by the coast.
Then head east for two nights in Fajardo, your base for rainforest scenery in El Yunque, the sandy shores of Luquillo and leisurely coastal exploring. Enjoy the freedom to choose your daily stops, with optional excursions available separately, including an evening bioluminescent-bay outing.
The journey begins and ends at San Juan Airport and uses just two hotel bases, giving you a varied introduction to Puerto Rico without daily hotel changes. The suggested programme can be adapted to your arrival time, interests and confirmed bookings.

Arrive at San Juan Airport, collect your booked rental car and drive to your selected hotel in the San Juan area. Depending on your arrival time, settle in, enjoy a stroll by the coast or find a local restaurant for your first Puerto Rican dinner.

Day 2 — Discover Old San Juan
Spend the day exploring Old San Juan at your own pace. Wander past colourful colonial buildings, browse small shops and pause for coffee or lunch. The waterfront and the historic fortifications offer rewarding views; admission to paid attractions is extra. Alternatively, combine a shorter city visit with beach time near your hotel.
Overnight: San Juan area — second night.
Day 3 — Continue East
