Antigua is known for its distinctive characteristics of Colonial architectural style which
include the use of decorative stucco for interior and exterior ornamentation, main
facades with a central window niche and often a deeply-carved tympanum, massive
buildings, and low bell towers designed to withstand the region’s frequent earthquakes.
On this walking tour of some of Antigua’s most notable architectural landmarks, we will
visit the Palace of the Captains General, the ruins of the old cathedral, Tanque la Union,
the façade of Santa Clara Convent, San Francisco Monastery, the arch of Santa Catalina
and the rooftop of La Merced.
Coffee Tour – Visit a real working coffee hacienda located about 5 minutes from
Antigua’s city center where you will learn about the history and production of coffee in
Guatemala. Learn about the historical importance of the region’s German migration, the

Once called Chaviar and abbreviated as ‘Chichi’, this village
was once an important Kaqchiquel trading post before the Spanish conquest. It seems
isolated, but today Chichicastenango is filled to the brim every Thursday and Sunday
with crowds of vendors and buyers converging for market day. At the market’s center,
the church of Santo Tomás was built over a Mayan temple, and today is one of the most
fascinating places to observe the convergence of Mayan and Christian beliefs.

large part thanks to the breathtaking views of the three lakeside volcanoes: Atitlán
(3537m), Tolimán (3158m), and San Pedro (3020m), which were formed by volcanic
activity millions of years ago. Today there are several indigenous villages on its shores,
with locals dressed in traditional multicolored outfits, fertile hills dotting the landscape,
and a mystical beauty. Tour: our boat will take us to the kayaks. We will paddle for 45
minutes along the picturesque shores. There is time to swim. We will then take a boat to
visit the village of San Juan la Laguna, a place known for its weaving coops, art galleries,

is home to the mysterious ruins of the Classic Maya era, with its towering temples of
Tikal. Flores, the capital city of Peten, is reached by a 45 minute flight (or an eight hour
car ride) from Guatemala City. The department’s main economic activity comes from
the Maya Biosphere Reserve shared with both Mexico and Belize, but it also has some
agricultural activity in the form of pepper and rice farming.

The archaeological site of Yaxhá is located on a hill surrounded by a
complex system of wetlands and woods making for breathtaking views from the tops of
the temples. More than 1,700 structures have been identified in the site: monumental
clusters with pyramidal temples, an acropolis, twin pyramid complexes, a
commemorative complex, ball courts, palaces and domestic residences. The site dates
from the Preclassic period (1500BC-250 AD) – though the Classic Period (250-950AD)
